Charlie Spivak (February 17, 1905 or 1907 – March 1, 1982)was an American trumpeter and bandleader, best known for his big band in the 1940s. Read more about him.


Note: these four songs have also been posted (by Channel MusicProf78)as individual videos (below) and were originally issued in an album of instrumental "Porgy And Bess" selections (Victor SP-6) by trumpeter Charlie Spivak, voted by Downbeat Magazine readers as "1944's Best Sweet Band." Recorded late that year, this collection of Gershwin tunes was released in early 1945 in the Victor Showpiece album format which consisted of two 78rpms encased in an illustrated heavy paper gatefold type container, as opposed to the usual more sturdy 'book' type built to hold three or more discs.
